Well over £5,000 with Gift Aid! - STOP PRESS On Sunday 17th September, Darwin Veterinary Centre held its second annual sponsored dog walk in aid of Dogs for the Disabled. We were incredibly lucky with the weather: after a week of torrential rain and thunderstorms, everyone was delighted to see Sunday dawn bright and sunny. Approximately 65 people and 40 dogs set off from the Fox & Hounds pub on Biggin Hill’s Main Road, at a little after 2 o’clock, and despite the all-too-frequent stiles, everyone really enjoyed the 7 mile walk through Westerham Hill, Letts Green and Cudham. A pit-stop at the Lodge Kennels for choc-ices and biscuits for the 2-legged participants, and water, treats and a rosette for our 4-legged friends, was a welcome break from the heat. Despite the climb up through Blackbush Shaw near the end of the walk, everyone who started made it back. If all of the money pledged is received, we will have raised over £3,000 for Dogs for the Disabled (nearer £4,000 when Gift Aid has been included). This year’s walk was specifically in aid of a young Golden Retriever puppy, Scout, who is currently undergoing training with the charity, before being paired with a disabled person, as a life long companion and helper. Scout was not the only dog to benefit from the sponsored walk, as we were joined this year by a few dogs from the RSPCA, currently looking for new homes. A young female terrier, called Purdy, who was abandoned with six puppies a few weeks ago, attracted the attention of one of the walkers, and has found herself a new loving home. A lot of interest has also been expressed in a young female Rottweiler who was out with us for the afternoon – so it’s fingers crossed that she finds a good home too. We really couldn’t do any of this fund-raising without the support of all of the walkers and those who sponsored them. To them, all of the staff of Darwin Veterinary Centre would like to offer their sincerest thanks. You can now dontate on-line, please click here. Please click on thumbnail image to enlarge.
